Choose Music That Tells Your Story

Think about how you want each part of your ceremony to feel. A gentle instrumental can create a quiet, intimate entrance, while a bright, familiar melody can make the moment feel celebratory. Use this guide to find pieces that suit both your relationship and the atmosphere you hope to create.

Listen to playlists together and notice which selections spark a memory, reflect a shared taste, or simply feel right. You might choose one musical style throughout the ceremony or give each moment its own character, from the anticipation of the processional to the warmth of signing the register.

As you make a shortlist, consider the pace of each piece, the length of the moment, and how the music will sound in your ceremony space. Follow tradition or create a unique selection of songs.

Music for Every Moment

PRELUDE:

The performer(s) will play a prelude for 15-20 minutes before the ceremony starts as your guests start arriving. The best preludes are calm and non intrusive to guests chatting.

MOTHERS’ ENTRANCE:

Some couples want separate music for the couple’s mothers being ushered down the aisle. If not, the prelude music will be appropriate for the mothers.

BRIDESMAIDS & FLOWER GIRLS:

This selection should be something that has flexibility to end at a convenient point, whether the aisle is long or short and a few or many attendants. The performers will practice the timing of the attendants at the rehearsal so they know where to repeat or where to make cuts.

BRIDE PROCESSIONAL:

Some brides want a quiet moment, some want a big trimphal entry. Decide what feels right to you and we will arrange the music to be the right length for your big moment down the aisle.

SPECIAL MUSIC:

Some ceremonies include a unity candle, sand jar or another quiet aside that the couple shares together. The accompanying music is typically quiet, sweet and intimate.

If you need a pianist to accompany a vocal solo or other special music, please notify us right away so we can prepare the music and coordinate rehearsals with the soloist.

RECESSIONAL:

Once you say “I do” and the officiant introduces you as a married couple for the first time, you will want an energetic and joyful song to usher you out of the room. Once that song is over, the performers will switch to a cheerful postlude.

POSTLUDE:

Typically similar to the prelude, the postlude will include songs with happy energy to celebrate the end of the wedding. The performers will play for around 15 minutes until the guests have left the room.

Wedding Music FAQs

Find answers about choosing pieces, requesting arrangements, and planning music around each moment of your ceremony.

How do we choose music for each part of our ceremony?

Start with the moments you want to highlight, such as the processional and recessional. Listen to the song options for each part of the ceremony, then choose music that fits the pace and feeling you want to achieve.

Go with one cohesive music style or mix it up according to the songs you love best.

Can we request a piece that is not on the list?

Yes. Send us the title and artist or a recording of the piece you have in mind. We can discuss whether it suits your ceremony and what would be needed to prepare it.

Can a favorite song be arranged for our ceremony?

Often, yes. Tell us which song you love and how you would like it to sound. We will review what is possible for the available musicians and let you know about any preparation or additional fees involved.

How much music do we need for the processional?

That depends on the length of the aisle and the number of people entering. Share your processional order with us, and we can help plan pieces with enough time for everyone to walk.

How will the musicians know when to start and stop?

We can coordinate musical cues with your ceremony plan and the person leading the rehearsal or managing the event. We are masters at stopping and starting at just the right time with seamless transitions. We may repeat some songs or we may only play the chorus of others, depending on the need of the moment.

When should we finalize our music selections?

Get in touch as early as you can, especially if you have a special request. Once your ceremony order is set, we can confirm the pieces and any timing details together.
