Discover the joy of playing guitar in this fun, beginner-friendly class designed especially for students ages 9-13!
Students will learn the fundamentals of guitar, including proper posture, how to hold and care for the instrument, basic chords, simple melodies, rhythm, strumming patterns, and music-reading basics. Through engaging activities and age-appropriate songs, young musicians will build confidence while developing essential playing skills.
This class provides a strong foundation for future musical growth and is the perfect preparation for students who may wish to continue with private guitar lessons. No prior musical experience is required—just curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn!
BYOG
KIDS:
Please bring a student sized acoustic guitar to class. Standard adult sized guitars are too big for children under the age of 13.
Visit Guitar Center or another instrument sales company to rent or purchase a good quality small acoustic guitar that is the correct size for your child. Ordering off of a website without hearing the quality of the instrument or being properly sized by a music store assistant is not recommended.

Caregivers
Caregivers and siblings are welcome to attend class and watch from the sidelines, or you can drop your child off at the classroom.
Students with learning or behavior challenges should have a caregiver stay and assist them during class.
Always wanted to learn guitar? This beginner-friendly class is the perfect place to start! Designed for students ages 14 and above, this course introduces the fundamentals of playing guitar in a relaxed, supportive environment.
Students will learn basic chords, strumming patterns, rhythm, simple melodies, proper playing technique, and how to read chord charts and tablature. Along the way, you’ll build confidence while playing familiar songs and develop the skills needed to continue learning on your own.
No previous musical experience is required. Bring your own acoustic guitar or electric guitar with amp and a willingness to learn. Whether you’re picking up a guitar for the first time or returning after a long break, this class will help you build a strong foundation while having fun making music.

Andrew DiRuzza
Appraised by JazzTimes as “a gifted jazz guitarist and star in the making,” Andrew DiRuzza is a dedicated performer, composer, arranger and educator. Since his first performance at 14 years old, Andrew has performed on multiple continents with musicians from all around the world.
Andrew has been a committed guitar teacher for over 25 years. His students range from six years old to senior citizens. It is Andrew’s firm belief that it is possible to find joy through music at any age.

- Classes booked through the Park District of La Grange are subject to their policies.
- Missed classes will not be refunded, credited or made up.
- While we do not anticipate issues, Mattix Music Studio teachers reserve the right to excuse children with destructive, aggressive, excessively distracting or disrespectful behavior. Parents with high energy students should consider attending class with their child to assist their behavior as needed.
